PolyJet Voxel Printing

50 x 50 x 50mm

This work represents the first known physical manifestation of the entire RGB colour space contained within a single, continuous three-dimensional gradient. The object explores the inherent symmetry in the translation of information between RGB (colour) and XYZ (spatial) modes. By suspending individual droplets of Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow pigment stochastically within a clear resin volume, the work allows the viewer to perceive the full range of human-visible colour instantaneously from any orientation. As it rotates through space, the object refracts the ambient light into a continuously shifting field of hue and luminance.

Building on the tradition of colour theory and the exploration of colour as a physical object, the work evolves the concept of the colour cube into a volumetric experience. While in theory the object contains every possible colour coordinate, its physical reality is a complex overlaying and blending of pigments in space, enabling the perception of the full RGB colour spectrum viewed through and within itself. This is made possible through advancements in high-resolution voxel-based PolyJet 3D printing technology.
